Chief Technology Officer and President, Orbital Technical Solutions
After earning his PhD from WVU in 2009, Dr. Thomas Evans joined the West Virginia University Research Center, designing a variety of advanced robotic technologies. After just one year, Dr. Evans was promoted to lead the research program, and in 2011 took on his director's role at the WVRTC. Over the next eight years, Dr. Evans worked to expand the program's technological capabilities, leading a team including tenured faculty, postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, and full-time staff in extensive research and testing operations supporting robotic satellite servicing missions. In addition, Evans concurrently served as a research associate professor in WVU's College of Engineering. Dr. Evans comes to Orbital Technical Solutions from his role as director and research program manager with West Virginia Robotic Technology Center (WVRTC) and West Virginia University (WVU), where he managed a full-scale research laboratory operating in support of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA) Goddard Space Flight Center and investigated technologies allowing robots to explore planetary surfaces. His experience as an administrator and technologist made his new position at Orbital Technical Solutions a natural transition for Dr. Evans. And joining Orbital Technical Solutions appealed to Dr. Evans because of Orbital's track record'including the fact that its fiftieth anniversary is this year'and the significant experience of its engineers.
